We're making a significant infrastructure change at DentalRx, and we want to be transparent about what's happening and why.

The Short Version

We're migrating our backend from Google Firebase to Appwrite. During this transition, you may experience some brief downtimes in our app.

We apologize in advance and are working to keep disruptions to a minimum. If you encounter any hiccups over the next week, that's likely us completing the migration.

Why We're Making This Move

Appwrite provides the data resiliency and compliance infrastructure we need to build out digital prescription capabilities properly. This isn't a lateral move — it's foundational work for where DentalRx is headed.

A Shift in Focus

When we launched DentalRx, we set out to be a medication information resource for dentists. After spending time with our users and watching how the app gets used, we made an important conclusion:

Dentists are focused on patient treatment, not medication management. And that makes sense.

Pharmacists, along with students and residents, are a primary cohort searching medication information on platforms like UpToDate.

There's a reason for that. Dentists and pharmacists work together to achieve patient outcomes — the responsibility doesn't rest solely on the prescriber.

This understanding has shaped our thinking.

Our medication information focus will take a backseat to treatment guidelines and a comprehensive e-prescription experience. We're building toward what dental professionals actually need in their day-to-day practice.

What This Means for You

Over the next week, you may notice occasional downtime or unexpected behaviour in the app. This is temporary and part of the migration process.

We appreciate your patience as we make these changes. This is the kind of behind-the-scenes work that isn't glamorous, but it sets the stage for everything we want to build next.
